The coat also protects the seed from predators such as birds and rodents and gives it a better chance of survival. Direct seeding on the degraded areas not only reduces transplanting cost, but also helps in development of strong roots for the trees.
With the rising demand of wood and wood products such as charcoal, there is need for better approaches to hasten regeneration efforts while increasing the survival chances and rehabilitating degraded lands.
